So I've just returned from a kick ass holiday, the remote tropical island kind.. ahhh.. and now, snap back to reality!
We've been off island hopping in Indonesia for the past 3 weeks and I have been having op shop withdrawals from day 2! I did stumble upon a small boutique on our travels and found an amazing sustainably made swimwear brand Petite Terre. The piece I purchased was handmade locally out of recycled plastic bottles and if you've ever been to Indonesia you would know this is the kind of initiative needed to counter balance all the bottled water that is consumed there. I felt really good about purchasing something that was locally made and evened up my score with the planet. Plus kept some plastic out of the ocean so to speak.. So as we come into land in windy Launceston.. oop there goes gravity, and my stomach lurches! I pull on an extra layer of clothing and my mind wanders from bikinis to the thought that I may need to purchase an extra knit or jacket?! Sunshine where have you gone? I'm back in Burnie at work on Monday and I've already planned my mad dash to my favourite Op shops. I get half an hour for lunch which is to say I get half an hour to shop, that's one smoothie, a power walk to the other side of town and a 15-20 minute scout! But have you ever had an indecisive moment when shopping? Out of hunger or being short for time? Well that Monday I had both! My palms were sweaty, between a combination of Monday blues, hunger and now back to being governed by my watch I have an OP SHOP REGRET! During my scout I found 3 amazing pairs of shoes. One pair of black Dianna Ferrari boots that were basically brand new *squeaks*, a simple yet versatile pair of summer slides and a pair of dainty black Converse sneakers. I had slides or sandals on my list of needs for summer and boots are always on my list, they are my go to almost everyday but did I need another pair of sneakers? I already scored a cute pair at the Clothing Cupboard, in a light denim colour, not long ago. I was running out of time and I hadn't bought my smoothie yet! The clocks run out, times up, I decided to leave the Converse behind... I am KICKING myself and not in a pair of almost new Converse shoes! As soon as I had my smoothie in hand I knew I had made a bad decision out of hunger. Those shoes were cheaper than my smoothie!! Put me in a shopping mall and I wouldn't have questioned needing them they were a total 'I never go out of fashion' type score and now I have a serious case of Op shop regret. I think everyone has been in my shoes.. well someone is definitely in them as they were gone! But I mean we've all seen an item, um'd and ar'd, then left it behind. The difference in doing that in shopping mall and Opshop is that 9 times out of 10 it's gone before you go back. The irony is that my number one rule whenever I'm scouting at the Clothing Cupboard is '#1 If you like it buy it' because I know we're only there for one day and that stall holder may not be back next time. I know that the person behind me is probably going to pick it up and like it too. Plus I know that if I buy it and don't wear it in 6 months it gives me a reason to clean out my wardrobe and have my own stall next time. So from now on I have a new shopping jam and I'll be listening to the wise words of Eminem next time I'm flicking through the racks.... you only get one shot! Own it, never let it go! -TCC xx *Yes this blog is full of Eminem puns and I am listening to him now.. no regrets!

The Clothing Cupboard Blog
There is just something so inspiring about markets and re-loving clothing. I love seeing the diversity of clothing when it is re-loved & peoples personalities spill out through their wardrobe. Previous Posts
