Christmas time, or as I like to call it the Silly season. When everyone gets a little silly and a little rushed. People start writing lists and saving money for expensive gifts and excessive mountains of food. Well I'm proud to say this Christmas my day had a little more "green" than just the tree.
This is year I tried my best to D.I.Y gifts and up-cycling materials where I could, and I'm pleased to say I got some delightfully crafted gifts in return. From up-cycled teacup pot succulents to delicious home cooking. Now some people say they aren't creative enough for D.I.Y or simply don't have the time but honestly anyone can do it! It doesn't have to be elaborate and it really is the thought that counts. To those that say they don't have time.. I reckon I could whip up a D.I.Y gift faster than you can get through the department store checkout at Christmas time! If you're stuck for ideas Pinterest is the place to explore, not the department store. Online you can find an extensive range of ideas and step by step guides. You can pick up materials from your local charity store too, D.i.y really is the gift that keeps on giving. This year I made some home made beauty products for my gals, the lotion bars turned out dreamy! I picked up ingredients from my local health food store and used plants and herbs from my own garden (and the neighbours) sorry guys! I found the recipe online, added my own scents and whipped them up, wrapped and all in an hour. Next I collected weird and wonderful pots from the local tip shop, or treasure trove as I prefer to call it. Some paint and markers and I was ready to up-cycle these into funky personalised pots and plant a little succulent in each. Again I just took cuttings of these from my own garden to re-pot and grow. Finally the wrapping! I re-cycled all my wrapping paper from items around our home and scored a roll of Christmas wrap from the opshop. I decorated the wrapping paper with the markers I used for the pots and a few more sprigs from the garden for that extra special touch. Our presents looked far from tacky under our Christmas tree that we again scored for next to nothing from the op-shop, storage box, plus decoration included! Christmas really shouldn't be about money and stress but instead about enjoying time with those you love, whether they are family, friends or fur babies. Taking that time to be grateful for all you already have and all you've worked towards and succeeded in the year that's been. I hope that everyone had a joy filled Christmas break and is rocking it into the new year! ps. I've already started pinning d.i.y ideas for next Christmas!

There is just something so inspiring about markets and re-loving clothing. I love seeing the diversity of clothing when it is re-loved & peoples personalities spill out through their wardrobe. Previous Posts
