Before The Clothing Cupboard market, and even before I myself was old enough to choose my own clothing and dress myself, my resourceful and resilient mumma bear was rocking it as a single parent! Mum would drag me through endless second hand stores and tip shops on adventures for treasure. My mum has the most 'think outside the box' imagination and a real eye for seeing the best in something -what it could be with a bit of TLC. This perception of "One mans trash is another mans treasure" is one of my most valued views that was passed onto me growing up. Without it I would never have been open to the idea of wearing pre-loved clothing and in turn would never have started The Clothing Cupboard... so THANKS MUM! Skipping forward a few years to where I am dressing myself... I LOVE to op shop, I love the thrill of the hunt and the fact that what I buy is unique! So it goes without saying that when I booked to run away and explore Europe with my best friend I was leaving room in my bag to pick up a few pre-loved extras along the way. Inspiration and pre-loved shopping opportunites were abundant and constantly presenting them selves to me on our trip abroad! Whilst navigating our way around sight seeing I would compile a list of pre-loved shopping stops! From the sun drenched cities of Espania with their outrageous vintage stores, to the colourful flea markets of Morocco and Amsterdam - I still do this for every trip I go on, so stay tuned if you'd like the go to on overseas pre-loved shopping! It was in Amsterdam that I think I truly had the inspiration and vision for The Clothing Cupboard. I was riding through the spiderweb of streets and canals trying to find the flea market I had hoped to visit, when I stumbled upon a flea market totally dedicated to clothing! It was outside in a bustling street with piles and piles of colourful clothing stacked up on big blue tarps. There were so many girls rummaging through what seemed like endless seas of clothing, I jumped right on in! The atmosphere was amazing, people were so excited with their finds and compliments were flying all over the places on how amazing everyone looked trying on their treasures. I peddled away from that market beaming, wearing my new mustard corduroy bomber jacket with leopard print fur collar! It was funky and totally unique and still to this day I have never seen anything else like it. From then on I craved re-living that experience and it was something I wanted to share with friends at home! And so I dreamed of markets, seas of clothing and warm smiling familiar faces..

The Clothing Cupboard Blog
There is just something so inspiring about markets and re-loving clothing. I love seeing the diversity of clothing when it is re-loved & peoples personalities spill out through their wardrobe. Previous Posts
